Jimmy Castor generally balanced…groovy anthropology lessons with heaping helpings of goofus sci-fi and parapsychology, not to mention mimicry of and/or homages to Count Dracula and the Archies and Jimmy “Dy-No-Mite” Walker of Good Times, scary voices demanding you “deny the prince of darkness,” frequent timbale-rock taunts at some sad sack named Leory, and completely serious and heartfelt soulsonifications of the sappiest serenades in humankind’s history (“Mandy,” “You Light Up My Life,” like that).
— from Chuck Eddy’s Stairway To Hell, where Castor’s Phase Two notoriously took the #10 spot on his Best Metal Albums Of All Time, between Teena Marie and Kix. Chasing his albums down in used stores was always a rewarding treat. RIP Jimmy.
